Magnacrete manufactures two types of Lightweight Blocks, one using LECA aggregate and the other using Pumice aggregate. Lightweight Blocks using LECA, an imported raw material, are about half the weight of regular masonry blocks. Lightweight Blocks using Pumice, a local raw material, is about 60% of the weight of the regular masonry blocks. In Pakistan, because of the higher cost of imported materials, all blocks currently used are made of Pumice. Pumice is a naturally occurring volcanic rock, and is a lightweight and porous material, which makes it suitable for various building applications where weight reduction and insulation are desired. Here are some key aspects of Lightweight Pumice Blocks: Lightweight: Pumice Blocks, due to their low density, are significantly lighter compared to traditional masonry blocks. This makes them easier to handle, transport, and install resulting in time and labor savings. Insulating Properties: Pumice has excellent thermal insulation due to its porous nature. The air-filled voids within the pumice provide insulation against heat transfer, making them effective in reducing energy consumption. Fire Resistance: Pumice is inherently fire-resistant due to its high silica content and low thermal conductivity. Pumice blocks can provide an additional layer of fire protection in building construction. Structural Strength: While Lightweight Pumice Blocks possess sufficient strength for structural applications, they can be used to construct load-bearing walls, partitions, or non load-bearing walls, depending on the specific building requirements and design considerations. Sustainability: Pumice is a naturally occurring resource and can be sourced locally in volcanic regions. Its lightweight nature reduces carbon emissions during transportation, and the use of pumice blocks can contribute to sustainable construction practices.
